The Bottom Line:
Wait for drivers and software compatibilty issues to be settled.
After having purchased a 64 bit System i decided to try the 64 bit XP to compare with its old 32 bit Version. The installation itself is straigthforward, nothing changed from the original XP installation.
Though probably the greatest power comes from the 64 bit processor itself, it is very impressing to see an almost 15 seconds decrease in the boot up time of Windows XP and Windows XP 64. Everything else works like a charm. except for some problems with some hardware and 32 bit applications. Though some software developers has ensured that there existing 32 bit softwares run on Windows XP 64, it is quite an issue with other softwares.
What not to do: Install any CD/DVD emulation software on Windows XP 64 unless it is clearly specified in the doc that it supports Windows XP 64. It is a painful experience!!! And i believe some hardware drivers and software not supported will end with a simillar result. Re-installation of Windows.
Try this url for a list or hardware and software for compatibility checking:

Conclusion:
If you're all in for speed, work and not much gaming and of course you have a 64 bit system i truly think it is worth the investment. Otherwise stick to your old Windows XP
Will recommend AMD 64 bit processors.
